Europe’s Declining Productivity Growth: Diagnoses and Remedies
Europe’s widening per capita income gap with the United States primarily reflects a rising productivity shortfall with deep firm-level roots. Europe also suffers from an overabundance of stagnant mature firms. Gee Hee and colleagues at the International Monetary Fund highlight the role of smaller markets and limited equity financing as bottlenecks holding back Europe’s large leading firms from scaling up and innovating. As for young high-growth firms, the IMF team also underscore the importance of human capital in fostering their formation and the need for a greater availability of risk capital to realize their potential.

Policy Workshop: Landing the Economic Case for Climate Action with Decision-makers
Despite a clear economic case for climate action, global climate action is still insufficient. This workshop discusses the economic case for climate action to decision-makers based on the growing body of economic research. Edmond Rhys Jones (BCG’s lead for climate policy and diplomacy) and Sahradha Kaemmerer (project lead) will present the main finding from this research (which will be published ahead of New York Climate Week).
